::flails:: I'm so excited about Soton Thanksgiving '07! I did a considerable amount of shopping today. First, the food. I'm providing the turkey (turkey breast joints, not a whole turkey, because that is beyond my skill level), mashed potatoes (I can make anything potato-based), gravy (...from a packet), cranberry sauce (from a jar, but that's how it is SUPPOSED to be), and Yorkshire puddings (pre-baked, and only because I couldn't find the proper rolls). Also the stuff from my package - cheeses, sticky toffee pudding, and wine. Kelley is bringing green beans, stuffing, and apple pie; Becca is bringing Waldorf salad.
After I lugged all that home, Mehvash and I went to the city centre to continue shopping. I hit Robert Dyas up for a large pot, potato masher, measuring cups and whatnot. But! The most important thing is that there was a giant Christmas fair going on in the square! I had a mug of hot chocolate with rum, and I bought some sort of German sausage (there was a lot of German food...god, the Germans know meat) and gingerbread, which will go with the cheese and dessert portions of Thanksgiving, respectively. I also think I saw my mother's Christmas present there. I hope it's on for the rest of the week.
Now I'm preparing to roast one of the three turkey breasts as a sort of trial run. This will be, like, the most cooking I've ever done, y'all. Respect. Also, I sort of miss the BB&B - I feel so at home walking into Robert Dyas. I asked if they were hiring, but apparently they've just laid off some people. Booo.
ETA: The fake turkey was a success! Well, sort of a success - it's sort of dry and not nearly as delicious as a proper Thanksgiving turkey. But it is edible, and I did roast it for the proper time.
And now I'm feeling really queasy, but I'm thinking that has less to do with the turkey and more to do with how I poured toffee sauce allll over gingerbread and ate with with my fingers and then drank some wine. Yeah, that's not sitting too well on top of the bird.
