Whoa, I kind of loved 'True Blood.' I mostly tuned in out of loyalty to Anna Paquin and was pleased to find it a tasty mix of sexy, creepy and funny. Maybe it's that Southern vampires are the best kind...or I was just relieved that nobody fucking sparkled.

Oh yeah, the Twilight post, she is still coming. I cannot wait to get totally drunk and go see the movie on HP's stolen premiere date in November.

Anyone know if the books on which the show is based are any good?

I miss 'Moonlight,' even if I'm the only one.

The books are fun, and not too heavy. I enjoy the setting a lot, and the first couple of books are really entertaining. But there is a bit of encroaching Anita Blake Syndrome, wherein Sookie is coming across as a bit too uniformly awesome, and is actively lusted after by the vast majority of the people she meets. It's not overwhelming, but I remain suspicious. Pick up the first one and see what you think.

I'd love to watch the show, but don't get HBO - will have to wait for the DVDs.

Well, I've read the first four books and they're entertaining. Not anything approaching literature, but fun. And knowing Danish television it will be years before I get a chance to watch "True Blood", if ever :-(

Re your tiny comment at the end of the post: I'm just starting to watch Moonlight (caught the beginning of episode one the other week and was sufficiently intrigued to continue). It suffers from being pretty similar to Angel and not being as good, but I'm going to keep watching I think. It's not the sort of series I'd rewatch, but it's entertaining enough.

Heaven knows if True Blood will hit NZ screens anytime soon; I hadn't even heard of it until your post and had to go and look it up on IMDB!

(ETA: I picked the icon I did because it's Karekare Beach, which is that beach at the beginning of The Piano ... hence vaguely connected with your post!)
