OMG I think I'm in love with this Pandora thing.
I can't remember which one of y'all mentioned it on the flist a couple weeks ago, but then Tina was raving about it at dinner last week and today I finally sat down to create a station. I was just adding songs and artists all at random (I'll have to go through my collection systematically at some point). When I added Tom Petty, it not only played a Heartbreakers song next, it played my very favorite Heartbreakers song 'Learning to Fly.' HOW DID IT KNOW?
Right now it's playing a live Grateful Dead cover of 'I Second That Emotion,' which is just about the awesomest thing I never knew existed. Seriously, um, my iPod might have to suffer some neglect for awhile. I tend to be the kind of person who is either dead set on listening to one album for six hours straight, or will hit shuffle and only listen to one song out of twenty (or forty, or sixty...). And when I'm at work I like variety but I just don't have the patience or time to hustle through until I find a song that fits the moment. Of course I can create playlists, and I do, but there's just something about the randomness of radio that gets me through the day. Except that this station can be rewarded for playing good music and - BETTER - reprimanded for playing shit I hate. It is truly extraordinary.
