Just finished Lincoln's Dreams. Damn, Connie Willis, why you always gotta be breaking my heart? Jeff was Traveller. Of course he was Traveller. And she was so glad to see him.
Here's the thing: Connie Willis does death better than any writer I have ever read. The deaths of her characters make me so angry because they're stupid and they don't make sense and they're so unflinchingly real. But there is always meaning, a message conveyed to those who are left behind. It's somehow comforting. That is about as coherent as I can get about it.
Seriously, if I could only rec one writer to my entire flist, Willis would be it.
