I mentioned awhile ago that I need to get a new laptop, as mine is not-so-slowly dying. I really want to get a Sony Vaio and have been surfing their website, making faces at the prices. In addition to very attractive brand-new notebooks, they also sell them refurbished.
My question is, have any of you guys ever bought a refurbished computer or can tell me anything about the process? According to the Sony website (here), it seems like there's nothing wrong with them except possibly a few "cosmetic blemishes," about which I don't give a shit as long as it works okay. But I hesitate to buy used for something like a computer, and I want to hear any bad or good experiences y'all might have had with it. It seems like a good idea, but that's way too much money to waste if the opposite is true.
The cheapest new laptop is $799 and the cheapest refurbished one is $549 ($599 if I want a 200GB hard drive versus 160GB). That's a pretty big difference on my budget, even if I ask for a Christmas contribution from my parents.
In other news, I heart my new LJ theme, even if the new profile page is kind of dumb. And I've sent requests for Inauguration Day tickets to two senators and my representative. I sincerely doubt I'll get them, but figured I had to at least try. I'll be on the Mall January 20th, regardless.
