::bounces:: Okay, my Christmas shopping is done. Well, for the parents anyway. I'm getting my mother tickets to see West Side Story at the National Theatre. Apparently that's where it first premiered in 1957, and this is a pre-Broadway run so I'm hoping it will be really good. They're putting some Spanish in it, which I'm excited about.

So basically it's the perfect gift, and I've been puzzling over an equivalent gift for my dad for the past couple of weeks (which is an odd reversal). I was just looking over some pictures from the new "Star Trek" movie when it came to me. Dad's a (very casual) Trek fan, and he mentioned a few years ago how he'd love to see the old ones again. So I'm getting him the first season of the Original Series on DVD. I'll talk Mom into getting him the other two, probably, because I can't afford all three. It's ridiculous that S2 and S3 are on sale for a lot less than S1. Still, I think it will be well-received.

Um, everyone else on my list might have to get homemade presents this year. On the other hand, everyone else on my list isn't letting me live in their home rent-free.

I MUST PUT UP MY CHRISTMAS ICONS FORTHWITH.

ETA: Just ordered the theatre tickets. They're balcony when I meant to get the cheaper mezzanine tickets at the same price, but FRONT ROW CENTER BALCONY which pleased me. Gah, I want to call Mom and tell her right now because I know she'll be so excited, but - Christmas! Wrapping! Tree! Unwrapping! Squeeing!

It is officially time for some music with words. And even though I'm breaking my own household rule...it may even be time for music with words of holiday cheer and peace on earth. Do you know how many holiday stations Pandora has? TEN. Ten kinds of Christmas music. It's like I died and woke up in Santa's workshop.

On an unrelated note (except for how I wish someone would give him to me from Christmas), Hugh Jackman is People's Sexiest Man of the Year. Does the word 'duh' mean anything to them? Also, his wife likes him to wear his costumes home. Any other actor that might be TMI, but not so much in this case. Pls to tell us more, madam.

You, my dear, are pretty much adorable.

Also, you are doing the unpossible and making me want to listen to holiday music before Thanksgiving!

What sorts of homemade gifts do you generally go with? I've been coming up with ideas in that direction myself.

Re: music - I KNOW! My strictly enforced rule is that Christmas music starts on the way home from Thanksgiving and not one second before. Sigh...

And I tend to rely on my knit/crochet skills, such as they are. My other successful craft-y gift idea was keepsake boxes. I bought those little plain wooden boxes from Michaels in various shapes, painted them in various favorite colors, and glued or stuck on ribbon borders and little things pertaining to each person. They were really cute, if I do say so myself, and can be adapted to pretty much any theme. (I have to warn you, though, that the cost can run up if you're a Michaels overshopper like me. It's inexpensive in theory, but there's just so much stuff to add...)

I might have to break that rule. I feel like listening to oldskool Christmas tunes.

I find knitting for holidays is BAD if you want to maintain sanity - it takes so long! Deadlines ack!

Oooh, I like that idea. Those boxes sound cute! I wonder how doing collages on them would work. Hm. I always wanted a cool old habox covered in stamps and brochures and stuff...

I've been looking at MarthaStewart.com for ideas. *hangs head*

My mum and I went to, er... this (http://www.centerforthearts.neu.edu/event2.html) back in October and Sondheim was talking about that version of West Side Story and how they're adding Spanish and such. It sounded really cool.
