Oh man. The BBC has done a text-based* miniseries of "The Diary of Anne Frank," and it is incredible. The young actress playing Anne gets her exactly right - this is the first production I've seen where she is believably a thirteen-to-fourteen-year-old, warts and all. The supporting cast is so good that there's not one standout (I didn't even recognize Kate Ashfield, although I felt like I knew the name).

Seriously, find a way to watch it. I kind of wish it had been released as a feature film, because it would've gotten more exposure. Hopefully it'll get picked up in the States by other cable channels (I love the BeebA, but it's not as widely available as A&E or something like that, no?)

I think I'm going to pull out my definitive edition now.

*as opposed to one based on the play, which is a fairly dated and flawed adaptation itself, IMO

They showed it here in NZ on Sunday - just a week after the BBC screening, which is weirdly quick. I thought it was fantastic, brilliantly acted and very moving.

That's great that you guys got it so quickly! I'm not sure if/when it's airing here.
