Fuck, y'all. Warner Bros is remaking "The Neverending Story."

NO.

These shenanigans cannot stand. Even money-grubbing whores jumping on the HP bandwagon should know better than this. Fantasy makes up, what, like 60% of the children's/YA lit published in the past twenty years? Why can't they option something new instead of TAKING A GIANT CRAP ALL OVER MY CHILDHOOD!

You do realize that if anybody, anywhere, EVER tries to remake "The Princess Bride," I will...probably end up on the evening news for attempted murder.

APPROPRIATE ICON IS AFUCKINGPPROPRIATE.

Because this is all about YOU, and just YOU, and everyone at Warner Brothers knows YOU would hate this, instead of thinking that there's a property they already own the rights to that they could film again instead of having to go to the trouble of buying the rights for something new.

Geez. This is LJ, ie., the place to rant in capslock about shit that pisses you off. I doubt [livejournal.com profile] the_dala sincerely thinks that WB suits watch her while she sleeps and plot on ways to make her miserable. When I go, "AUUUGH MTV MAKING ROCKY HORROR! WHY DO THEY HATE AMERICAN?" I don't think the MTV suits are walking around burning flags.

I mean, yeah, it's a free internet, but... still.

Unless you guys are BFF and I've fallen into the sarchasm, in which case... my bad.

"sarchasm" is such a good word for when that happens. I feel like I must be slow never to have seen it before!

There is a part of me that thinks some things should be left alone. But then again they could make something really amazing, maybe.

For now I'll enjoy the originals and have shared those with my kids.

Yeah, there are just so many elements of it which are entirely '80s, and I have trouble seeing them reimagined!

I so wanted a luck dragon. Of course, I also believed the Gump from "Return to Oz" was made from a real animal that you could find at the National Zoo. My aunt got really confused when I kept asking to see the Gump.

While I do have kind of soft spot for the original Neverending Story movie, then I must admit to always having been disappointed with the distinct lack of - oh, most of the book, really - including the ships sailing across the Sea of Mists or whatever that would be in English... *curls up protectively around book*

I've heard that the book is very different. I actually own it, but have never been able to bring myself to read it...

Oh it is a lovely book, but quite different from the movie. For one thing, the movie stops about halfway through the book - the sequels used some more stuff from it, but still - so many things. The mine filled with the pictures of people's dreams, the ever-changing house that's bigger on the inside, the monastic owls, the great battle between Bastian and Atreyu (of course, it doesn't help that I was a small kid that had listened to the audio book half a dozen times or more the first time I watched the movie - quite fun, but still, adaption decay, sorry to say).

OMG I cannot adequately express my disgust at this idea!! It was bad enough they made those shitty sequels, but to actually have the audacity to presume they can capture the perfection of the original movie... just... just... NO! Let 'The Neverending Story' end!

Aren't they fabulous! And RtO just does not get the adulation it deserves - only the 80's understood how to disturb a childhood with style. The room with the head cabinets still freaks me out!

Anyway, you should check out more icons on that journal. There are two icon makers who post there and they icon movies you will never see anywhere else on LJ. I highly recommend a browse through the tags (especially the Labyrinth one!)

Should the author(s?) of xkcd worry then, given today's strip (http://xkcd.com/549/)? Or are they just reading your LJ?
