You know what I noticed?

Nobody ever seems to drink rum in Trek fic. It's always goddamned bourbon or whiskey or vodka, familiar variations or fascinating alien varieties. I mean, I get it because of the characters, but...

I miss rum ::pouts:: If Jack Daniels and effing BUDWEISER are still around in the future, I would like to think that Captain Morgan and Bacardi could hang on. AT THE VERY LEAST KIRK COULD GET THE GIGGLES OVER A BOTTLE OF MOUNT GAY.

Why would "gay" mean the same thing to Kirk as it does to you? For all language changes, maybe "gay" has come to mean "rugged" or "macho."

This is true. I was heavily influenced by having read a fic in which Jim Kirk starts a fraternity just prior to making this post.

In the future, rum cocktails will be drunk by manly men, and women will sip highland whiskey daintily.

Okay, maybe the cocktails will be made by the bucket, but still.

And now I kind of want Star Trek/POTC fic. Okay, like I think I for real want it. Jack would love Spock so much.

I had Jack Sparrow living my brain for a good five years, and I'm not even sure I could keep him and Spock in there at the same time.

Someone'll write it. If we wait long enough, it might even be me.

I am being told that Spock would just nerve pinch him and be done with it. I refuse to believe this. Clearly Spock has some sort of masohistic fascination for crazy, conceited Captains.

Vulcans are curious. Jack would keep him occupied for...let's just say, some time.

I think Spock and Will might have an interesting conversation or three.

I think Will would mostly hang out with Sulu. Spock and Norrington, now, there's your dinner theatre.

OK, you win. The Eyebrow-Off would be EPIC.

LOL. I keep wanting to write Jack & Jim meeting. Or James Norrington & his lieutenants prowling the Enterprise.

Pity I've not seen the new Trek film... though I think there's probably enough fic about that I can get at least a half-decent handle on the characters based on all the stuff I've seen before...

I see a pirate fiction coming up, with space rays turning all the booze aboard into rum and everyone saying "Arrrr."

You may run with it. : )

I read this aloud to my roommate and she says: "For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, Captain Jack Sparrow is aboard the USS Enterprise..."

Ah, but you see, nobody ever drinks rum because the space pirates keep plundering and pillaging every transport ship that ever tries to take rum anywhere...

"Mount Gay! It says it right there, Bones. Gay! Bwahahaha!"

"Jim, what the fuck's the big deal? It's the 23rd century. You sleep with men, I sleep with men...no big deal."

"See, but it says ga- Wait. You sleep with men?"

"Uh, sometimes? Augh!"

*GLOMP*

"But why is the rum gone?"
"I don't know. The rum has always been gone. There has been no rum for centuries."
"That... is truly abominable. Unthinkable, even. I suggest we rectify this state of affairs at the first opportunity.

1) Ceann! Yay! I love them!

2) I've definitely thought of the possibility of ST/PoTC crossover or maybe just parallel fics or something. I mean, they both take place on ships, first of all....

I don't think there was rum, but I remember seeing a fic where Will Turner was STILL the captain of the Dutchman, though it was sailing the seas of space hundreds of years later, and... I don't remember. I think he met up with someone from Star Trek, though I don't think it was TOS. When I'm back from work I'll try and find it again.

Hmm. Still searching, but I did find this one, which is a brief Pirates/DS9 crossover.
