It is my birthday! ::twirls::
I'm having a pretty low-key birthday, but it started positive because I actually slept through the night. Gave up on the codeine syrup, went back to Nyquil and lo, an uninterrupted eight and a half hours. I was actually woken up by my phone beeping: my cousin Larissa and all four of my little cousins texted me a happy birthday, one by one. It seems like a little thing, but I wasn't expecting it and it made me really happy.
Sadly, I couldn't take work off like I did last year due to a lack of leave hours (because of the goddamned Snowmageddon 2.0). Of course I wasn't particularly productive while I was at work, because c'mon: it's my birthday and Friday. I headed to my parents' after work for the usual Friday Night Dinner - real birthday dinner is at Ruth's Chris on Sunday. But I got a card, cake, balloon, and flowers! Also at some point this weekend I'm choosing one of two bikes, as that is my actual. It's very exciting, I haven't had a new bike since I was about nine (and I left that bike at St. Mary's, on graduation day, after frantically peddling to the family breakfast because I was late). I plan to...ride it, and...take it places. It'll be good times. I haven't picked out a name yet (because I haven't picked out a bike yet, but I will be sure to keep y'all informed.
What else? Tomorrow is Vanessa's house warming party, so I've got to get up at a reasonable hour to go find some kind of gift. What's a suitable house warming gift? Mom says a plant; I was just planning to wandering Target and/or Bed Bath & Beyond until I find something cute.
For now I'm sitting here watching "The Soup" and "Dawn of the Dead" on TV. I freaking love this movie, I really do. I confess I'm not up on the zombie classics, as they're not really my thing when it comes to horror, but I think this is a well-done remake. The characters are awesome and I enjoy Zack Snyder's visual flair even in movies I don't much like.
Have I mentioned that I've gotten addicted to
ontdcreepy? It's an excellent time waster. Though I don't read it at night, or alone, both of which are happening right goddamned now.
Like I said to Quinn a couple days ago, I am SO glad our apartment isn't creepy. I am pretty good at freaking myself out over nothing. The only reason I'm watching this movie now is because zombies don't really do it for me (though the fast ones are marginally scarier). I'd say it's also because I've seen it a bunch of times, but I've seen "The Shining" a bunch of times too and it will never not scare the beejesus out of me.
For a quick and easy birthday present to myself, I just bought everything Crystal Bowersox has done on AI so far. Her voice is magical, oh my GOD.

For a housewarming gift, how about kitchen stuff, like a good set of knives or mixing bowls? Towels might work too, or something like a bread machine or a good tea set - something you know she'll want to use.

ontdcreepy is like crack. Horrifying, horrifying crack. I read it, and then hear the raccoons on the deck outside and think it's goblins. Goblins.

And thanks! I do feel better, and I've had a very good weekend :)
