Hello, LJ people! I'd like to try this 30 days of blogging thing everybody is doing right now, and hopefully keep up the habit (or some semblance of regular posting anyway) when it's done. I meant to start earlier, but I'm just coming off of several weeks without Internet at home, so there needed to be some fannish wallowing first.

Tonight's post is mostly a placeholder -- there is too much, so I will sum up. In the past two months I've started a new job, which is going well, and moved (FINALLY). If only I had gotten married and given birth as well, I'd have been 4 for 4 on the major twenty-something life changes. Oh, and I also went to Dragon*Con, which is just this little event where I get to see my awesome friends and spend the other 360 days of the year waiting for (this time I will do a full report, I SWEAR. I've almost entirely shaken off the con blues).

So if I've been remiss in replying to anything, I do apologize. I am feeling ready to be more present.

But I'm keeping this brief because I'm about to run off and make this bean soup, which as soon it showed up in my inbox I needed. I don't care if it's going up to 92 tomorrow, I will drag sweater-and-boots-and-soup season kicking and screaming into my life. I'm planning to throw in a ham hock, which should be interesting as I've never cooked with it before (though I've made soup with the remains of one of those big pre-made foil-wrapped hams). I was also really jazzed that Safeway was having a buy two get one free sale on spices, and I bought a ludicrous amount of cereal because not only was it $.50 alone, it was FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS off if you bought five. Look, I eat that Kashi Go Lean shit every single day (sometimes twice if I'm too lazy to make dinner) -- it's not cheap, and that's almost 40% off regular price. I was...maybe a bit too excited in the middle of the cereal aisle.

Milo says hi. He seems very happy to have his own personal space again, and he pooped twice in the past 24 hours. It's the little things, y'know?

Annnnd that's the post.

I need to try that soup too. I was so happy to find a bean soup recipe a few years ago that doesn't mean soaking the beans for 10 hours before - you cook them on the stove in a Dutch oven and then put them in the oven to finish and the whole process takes so much less time. The beans come out a little firm, but they still taste good.

It turned out very well, altough I recommend taking a few cups of beans out to smash them more effectively, and I'm afraid I oversalted mine a bit.

Right1 I felt a little silly buying five boxes of cereal, but hey, that's breakfast for the next month taken care of.

Thanks for the recipe link! That looks very yummy and the site in general looks great. I'm always looking for inexpensive and vegetarian recipes. I'm bookmarking like crazy!

You're welcome! Budget Bytes is awesome, and she's done a lot more vegetarian recipes this year. I can vouch for the black bean quesadillas, the couscous-cucumber salad, and the red lentil stew in particular.

He seems really happy, actually! I was worried he'd be lonely during the day, but having his own personal space again (it's his room, obviously, I just sleep there) and not competing with a 60 lb dog for attention and treats seems to have made up for it.

I had a dream that you gave me Milo for some reason, and I remember feeling somewhat distressed at the idea of having Mal, Alex, and Milo. Then I woke up, remembered that Milo is indeed your cat, and was relieved. :)

Thanks for the website! I am definitely going to be relying heavily on it (black bean and avocado enchiladas OMG this weekend yes).

Aw, that would be rather overwhelming!

Budget Bytes is AMAZING. Every recipe I've made has been really really good.

Hurray another 30-dayer! \o/

I had to google Kashi cereal, but it looks yummy! As does that bean soup. Happy cooking :)
