My god/ess/s/es. I'm actually going to write this AU epic.
Well, not 'epic' exactly. But more than a three-page ficlet.
And it can work. I'm going to skip the Barbossa nonsense entirely, except maybe to spare a ficlet about how eventually Jack finds out about the medallion and they do end up getting the ship back. Then I'm going to skip straight on to an idea inspired by two bits of dialogue from the movie, one of them cut: Elizabeth's line "You sacked Nassau Port without even firing a shot" and Jack Davenport's comment that Governor Swann's reaction when the pirates attack Port Royal originally included the line "Exciting!"
So, off of those two intriguing ideas, I've determined that in my Will-grows-up-as-a-pirate AU, they decide that they're going to take Port Royal because there are rumors of a vast treasure being hidden there. Only first, they're going to live in the town for awhile to find out where it is. Will gets hired by the governor as a gardener (I thought about sending him to the blacksmith, but there's just no way he would've gotten sufficient training, and besides, then he wouldn't be near Elizabeth all the time so he could fall in love with her). Jack, meanwhile, is sniffing around under his gentleman's disguise (perhaps as Sir Charles from the Nailverse, although this time he'd be Will's uncle instead of Norrington's). He suspects that the treasure might be kept either at the fort or at the Commodore's house, and thus the Sparrington happens.
I can do this.
Wish me luck!

But please don't forget the nailverse...

Exciting, to say the least!
I've been following your Nailverse (indeed, I save each chapter unto an ever growing document file on my computer so I can read at my leisure) and that is an awesome story!
This story, though, because it is stepping beyond the actual movie, is really exciting to me. So many possibilities and developments! Uncharted waters! Yo ho! Sign me up! I know this is going to be one hell of a ride!!!
