Just came back from a second viewing of "Star Trek," during which [livejournal.com profile] tricksterquinn and I babbled incoherently at each other the whole time. It remains totally awesome. It may have even edged over into more awesome the second time, because I noticed something new: during the cave scene, Spock's voice is all echoe-y due to the mind meld. There's a point at which it becomes very faint, which I first thought was due to a burp in the sound system or something. Second time around, I noticed this: Spock's voice fades out when he gets to the part about the Kelvin, and someone else says clearly, "No." I thought it might be Nero because he's onscreen at the time, but Nero is just breathing hard, not speaking, and anyway he's got no reason to protest the destruction of the Kelvin. So I can only assume it's Kirk who says "No," watching the death of his father.

Um...so this isn't hugely significant or relevant to the plot or anything. It was just a bit of something I liked.

So, in conclusion: Go. See. I'm gonna try to post recs tomorrow.

Collecting shiny new icons is funnnn.

Where are you getting the shiny new icons? I fail at seeking out icons that are to my taste.

I've lost track of which comms they all came from - but I basically joined every Trek comm I could find :) They're out there!

I noticed this tonight also! (I was paying special attention to the sound because I was curious about the execution of the mind meld/infodump -- which was done very well.)

Yeah, for some reason I really liked that we could hear some of Kirk's response to it (even though I have no idea of mind melds really work that way :) It brought home the emotional impact of the scene, with him reeling the moment Spock releases him.

If you are, then I am! That's part of what I liked so much about the characterization in the film :) It got way more classic Hero's Journey, which appeals to me.

heck yes! I also enjoyed that it was a massive two-fer in that regard, with both Kirk and Spock coming into their own (along with, you know, the ENTIRE CREW of the Enterprise (baby Chekov! tiny ninja Sulu! SIMON PEGG!), but those two were the Main Attraction).

(hahahaha, can you tell I haven't flailed at nearly enough people yet about this movie? I am rambling!)

No worries here, ramble away! My own flailing has rather taken over my life :)

Would you like to know how bad a fangirl I am?

During the Kirk and Nimoy-spock bonding time, I'm afraid I uttered the phrase (quite loudly enough for most of the theater to hear): Kirk and Spock are in a CAVE! ALONE! CRASHED! and then flailed while hubby patted me on the head.

I'm afraid that, despite the disconcerting Uhura/Spock thing (which is a big old Wha-huh? for me) my slashy soul is quite happy with the flick and going "\o/"

My only Wha-huh about the Spock/Uhura thing (which was hinted at in TOS cannon) is the thought of how Christine Chapel is going to react when we get her (we better) in a sequel.

Also, my husband says he enjoyed the movie on its own but that he had just as much fun watching me bounce and clap and point at amazing things on the screen.

::giggles:: Aw, I really liked Spock/Uhura. To be honest, I didn't really get Kirk/Spock until Spock Original Recipe showed up. Although there was really slashy subtext all OVER the place.

I'm a long time K/S fangirl. I even have a whole collection of the original stuff - 70s xeroxed fanzines they sent through the mail. But... to each their own.

I'm liking Kirk/Spock too. And Kirk/Spock/Uhura. And Kirk/McCoy. And Kirk/Spock/McCoy if I should ever be so fortunate to encounter it.

...I've always been a pairing whore :)
